Where do the good times go?

When working on my sermon for Ascension service, for some reason I got a little nostalgic. One of my favorite singers and song writers has always been Kenny Rogers. One of his lesser known songs is a great one called "20 Years Ago." I think most all of us can relate to this song one way or another. Take a moment to watch this short video of the song. How often do we spend time thinking about the "good ol' days?" Kenny is not the only one who sings about the past. Frank Sinatra did it with the great song, "It Was a Very Good Year." Bruce Springsteen wrote about the "Glory Days" and current artists have songs like "100 years" by Five for Fighting or Alan Jackson "Remember When."   

What makes you look back on life? An event? A death of family or friend? A smell? Going back home again? Class reunions? A Song? Dad has Disturbing Nightmare about Infant

I woke up very early this morning from a terrible nightmare, like one many parents I am sure have had. Here was my dream. . .

Joann and I were giving Erik a bath in the tub. Then we got to talking and turned our backs for just a moment, all of the sudden I looked back and there was Erik all in the tub, but somehow it was filled all the way to the top with water and he was at the bottom all scrunched up in a ball not moving. I immediately picked him up out of the water to discover he wasn't breathing. I yelled to Joann, "Oh no!" and then I woke up. . .

Yes it was very disturbing and you can probably tell it still haunts me. I am no Joseph who interprets dreams, but I can guess where this was coming from. After our recent scare in the hospital with RSV over Easter and then with some heart problems he has been having, and now a cold again where he is so congested he has trouble breathing, we have been rather concerned.

I suppose it is also always a fear of a parent to turn your back for a moment and something has happened. Guess it doesn't matter if this is your first child or another, I guess we all have that fear. Maybe God puts that there in us so that we constantly stay vigilant over our new babies.

I am sure that many of you have been there with a story like this. This probably will not be the last either. Nothing new, but I thought I would share, maybe as a chance to dialog with others, and to work the vision out of my head. We continue to pray to God for strength and security, truly the only place that it can come from.

Hannah Montana, Babies, and Blogs

What do these three have in common? Well the reason why I have not been able to as much blogging as I have in the past. My daughter and I had the great opportunity to spend some time together at the Hannah Montana 3-D movie little while ago. (The 3-D glasses are not flattering at all.) Meanwhile since Erik  was born, 9 weeks ago and mommy teaches, we need to share responsibilities as well as fight over who gets to hold him. (not a problem at 4 am though.)

So... when you include church and the load there, my blog time as been cut quite short.Thank God for a short break in the business because of Spring Break. I know there are some that check here (thanks to the 3 of you) and I will be writing, but sorry it hasn't been for a while. I like the blog but when that precious time comes between God,wife, kids, church and blog, well sorry, but blog gets short end of the stick.
